As Glocks are made by the same manufacturer, there has been countless assumption about them having interchangeable parts and sharing the same holsters.
Despite having a similar depth and height, the Glock 20 and 17 are not quite the same gun. You cannot interchange many parts among them. And if you are feeling adventurous and want to know whether they have interchangeable holsters or not, let’s find out.
What is the Glock 20?
The Glock 20 is a hi-tech polymer-constructed semi-automatic handgun known for its accuracy and stability.
The performance of Glock 20 is insanely good for the money. Glock also had several years to refine this as they go and now the Glock 20 has several generations of it in the market. For example, you might heard of the Glock 20 Gen5.
It’s around 780 grams without mag and with mag around 870 grams. It’s pretty lightweight and compact and easily fits in many different holsters out there.
What is the Glock 17?
The Glock 17 is also a polymer-made semi-automatic pistol. While the Glock 20 Gen5 comes in a 10mm auto variant, the 17 comes in a standard 9mm variant. It’s almost the same size as a Glock 20 but not quite.
With a slightly more compact body and a larger magazine, the Glock 17 has been a popular choice among shooters for everyday carry weapons.
Glock 20 vs Glock 17 – The Differences
Contrary to popular belief, the higher number of Glock 20 doesn’t imply it has 20 bullet magazines. I know, shocking!
Jokes aside, the Glock 17 is the weapon with a higher capacity mag. It has 17 9mm shots while you have 15 10mm shots on Glock 20. From the outside, they look like two identical twins. One is just a little bit malnourished compared to the other.
That’s true to some degree. The total length of Glock 17 is 202 mm. On the other hand, the Glock 20 is 205mm long.
Now, you might be thinking that difference is within the margin of error and they should have identical accessories.
You are half wrong. They do share a lot of accessories that fit on both of them including a sight or custom-made badges. But the Glock 20 is also a bit thicker and overall a bulkier weapon than the Glock 17.
Will Glock 20 fit on a Glock 17 Holster?
Yes, and, no. Let me explain.
The weapons share nearly identical structure and their height/depth difference isn’t world-shattering. But there is a slight difference.
Nonetheless, some loosely made holsters for Glock 17 can hold a Glock 20 without any tinkering needed. But if we are talking about hard holsters made out of Kydex, they are made for specific guns and they are not interchangeable, at all!
The bottom line is, if it’s a poorly crafted holster with enough wiggle room, it will fit the Glock 20. But I would highly advise you against it.
It can harm the potential of your gun and result in accidental removals. That can lead to fatal flaws as well.
Closing Thoughts
You shouldn’t try to fit something in a place where it doesn’t fit. No joke, like, legit, don’t do that! I know you can just shove in a Glock 20 on a Glock 17 holster, but why would you do that?
Does that serve a purpose? Will it save you some money? Maybe, but it may end up causing serious damage in the near future.
Hopefully, this information was valuable and helpful to your Glock journey. That’s all for now, will see you guys on the next one. Take care and have fun.
